Well, where do we begin!

In the club’s drunken stupor on Twitter last night we managed to thank a few people, but it’s worth repeating!

The event simply would not happen without (and be prepared this is a long list!) Jane and Rob John, Mike Fatkin, David Harris, Richard Adler, Rod Woodward, and of course the Glamorgan Cricket ’97 winners (and Richie Green!).

And finally to Matt, Sue and the Maynard family. Special people and a truly special day. You’re the heartbeat of the club.

So many club volunteers yesterday but you all deserve a mention – so excuse the Oscar-esque post!

Keith Harding, Tony Gabe Jones and Clive Teague for all the hard work on the BBQ yesterday, marvellous effort by the old fellas!

Malcolm Weatherall, Nigel Keane and Ryan Nicholls for their work pulling pints!

The club’s official photographer/broadband manager/everything-else-you-put-your-hand-to, Tim O’Gorman, thank you for all you do.

A special mention to our gatekeepers, Matt Sweeney and Pete Mathias who did a sterling job in not too pleasant conditions!

The ladies who have performed miracles over the past few days – Val, Helen, Ann, Ceri and Frances! Brilliant.

The youngsters – Zac, Callum, Zayn, all three Burrows – the future of the club and who’ll be playing in the day on a regular basis sooner rather than later!

Our DJ – Dave Burrows! As Ian Williams put it, what a proper clubman. He’s made DJ Tom Bevan redundant but our club secretary deserves a lot of credit for his contribution of late. You’re not getting sacked yet.

Ellie Hopkins and her army on the bar. You have served us out of beer, wine, vodka you name it! Outstanding stuff.

The players – but particularly those who’ve helped set up and clean up. Legends the lot of you.

Last but certainly not least, the true ‪#‎Stags‬ trooper that is Tim Hopkins. Hasn’t stopped busting a gut since Thursday and was still going today. We’ve run out of superlatives for what Tim and Val do for the club. Extraordinary!

Without you such a day would just not be possible. Thank you! #Stags

Glamorgan ’97 Championship winning squad to reunite for the Tom Maynard Trust

The Glamorgan CCC 1997 Championship winning squad is reuniting this Friday in aid of the Tom Maynard Trust for the annual fundraiser at St Fagans CC.

The 14 players, who became only the third group in Glamorgan’s history to win the Championship title, will come together as part of the fourth Tom Maynard celebration day at St Fagans, which takes place on Friday (19th August).

Some of the team – along with other previous Glamorgan stars – will participate in the now traditional Twenty20 match between Matthew Maynard’s Invitation XI and the St Fagans club.

The day begins with a sold-out marquee lunch from 12noon with the cricket likely to start around 2.30pm – weather depending. St Fagans CC is open all day with the bar fully-stocked and refreshments provided regardless of the whether the sun is shining or the rain is pouring.

Both Matthew and Tom played for St Fagans CC with Tom joining the club at the tender age of just 6.

Tom’s father, Matthew, who captained the successful 1997 team, said:

“We talked about the event before Christmas and thought it was worth checking everyone’s availability and the Trust’s secretary, Mike Fatkin, threw an email out and the response has been brilliant.

“All 12 UK-based players of the Championship squad confirmed almost immediately and also Adrian Dale, who lives and works in New Zealand, is on board too.

“I’m not sure when it’ll be possible to get everyone together again in the future so this will be a really special occasion for all of us, even if we don’t quite get all 14 players there.

“Throw in some of the management team such as John Derrick, Dean Conway and a few of the other squad players at the time – along with Mike and other members of staff – and it should be a fantastic trip down memory lane.

“I’m thrilled that everyone has agreed to commit to it and to help the Trust in the process.  It’ll add spice to what is already a special day.”

St Fagans Club Chairman, David Harris, said:

“Tom and the Maynard family hold a special place in the hearts of us all at St Fagans Cricket Club and we are honoured to play our part in raising money and awareness for the Trust, which is carrying out so much outstanding work for young aspiring sportspeople.

“Come rain or shine, our doors will be open with a guaranteed warm welcome to boot – all with the aim of raising as much as we can for the Trust. All cricket fans are welcome to come and share in a bit of Glamorgan nostalgia.

“The event wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of many individuals but a special mention should be reserved for Jane and Rob John for their tremendous efforts in setting up what is a very special day for the club.”
